Most of the time, we are already contented with what we see on the surface. We fail to look into the essence of digging deeper to find a worthy treasure. Thus, it is what Philosophy is all about.
Philosophy came from the Greek word, ‘philosophia’ which means ‘love of wisdom.’ It seems a deep phrase, right? Let’s dig deeper.
When we say ‘love’, it often means the desire we have for someone or something. And wisdom refers to intelligence, in the opinion, common sense, prudence, knowledge, and science. Hence, love of wisdom means the desire to seek the truth about ourselves, our life, our world, and God.
Moreover, in today’s modern society, people have more access to infinite knowledge due to technology. With one click, you can find the knowledge you want. However, despite making our search easy and providing us knowledge, it still hinders us to seek more because we tend to settle for what we already found. Nonetheless, this is where Philosophy must enter into our systems.
Philosophy empowers us to learn intellectually, spiritually, and morally. In terms of intellect, it helps us to have the ability to think logically, analyze and solve problems, assess proposed solutions, and to write and speak clearly, attending to details. Additionally, through Philosophy, we learn to think well whether to believe in God or a Supreme Being. Because of that, we become stronger spiritually as our faith grows. Furthermore, Philosophy provides us the ability to identify what is right and wrong which helps to strengthen our moral values.
Aside from that, Philosophy encourages us to dig deeper. We tend to find ourselves, the correlation of our body and soul, and its essence. It helps us to ask questions and to doubt the reality which is the hand upon us. In addition, we also tend to seek the greatest value of life. The 5Ws and 1H will never leave us as we search for our purpose. In addition, it will help us to not just center our lives onto ourselves and our life, but also into the world and the people around it. And the most important is, we will find God’s essence into our life as He is the Alpha and the Omega.
Therefore, we need to learn Philosophy to find the treasure it offers to us. Because on the surface, we find the intellectual, spiritual, and moral benefits but deep down that surface, there is a treasure of truth about ourselves, our life, our world, and God which we will nourish until our last breath. Nevertheless, through Philosophy, we will have a deeper understanding of everything, and we will live with it by applying it in our daily life.
